LED vs.
LED lighting vs. Induction and HID
LED
•LED is targeted light that travels through a lens in a controlled beam with better uniformity (6:1 max to min distribution).
•LED products have a myriad of available Kevin ratings (color) from 2000 to 7000.
•LED is instant on, instant off.
•LED products are completely dimmable and can have high/low.
•LEDs do not contain Mercury or any environmental hazards
•LED units have the ability to increase their lumen efficiency and will reach 200 lumens per watt in the coming years.
•LEDs function more ideally in cold conditions than HID and Induction.
•LEDs can also thrive in a hot environment as long as the heat sinks are constructed properly.
•LEDs have a significantly longer lifespan than most competitors (50-150k hours).
Induction/HID
•Currently, Induction and HID products are less expensive to purchase than LED.
•Induction and HID require more input watts than LEDs to deliver the same uniformity.
•Induction and HID are both omnidirectional light sources which require reflectors to distribute their uniformity. This results in increased power requirements and a large percentage of light loss factor. Typically, 30 to 40% of light staying in the fixture and a 16:1 max to min distribution pattern.
•HID is limited to two color bands, 2400K and 4200K. Induction usually has only 3000 or 4100 Kelvin.
•HID requires a warm up time of 3 to 11 minutes.
•Induction and HID do not dim, however they can be set up for high/low.
•Induction and HID contain Mercury, LED does not.
•Induction and HID are at the peak of their evolutionary development and will not expand in Lm/W.
Additionally:
•LED lamps and fixtures have many requirements and conditions set by IES,Utilities and the DOE to make sure that the light source and the manufacturer providing the product adhere to a required set of guidelines. (3rd Party Testing)
•Induction and HID have no such guidelines and even though Induction require heat sinks for lamp life longevity, the only standards come from the manufacture producing the product. (No 3rd Party Testing)
